Trusted Service since 1954
During 1954, W.G Gaffley started a taxi service in Grabouw. His sons Joseph and Colin assisted him. After his death in 1960, his sons continued with the service and in 1961, realising that the taxi service could not cope with the growing demand, they decided to start a bus service. Originally one bus was purchased and with the start of this service Gaffley’s Transport (Pty) Ltd was established.
Besides a commuter service for the Grabouw community, transport was also provided for workers and school children on farms in the Elgin Valley, factory workers in Grabouw, Somerset West and Strand.
Soon afterwards a daily commuter service between Grabouw and Somerset West was started. Authority for a daily commuter service between Grabouw and Bellville and Cape Town was also obtained. All these services are still running and growing.
After the rugby world cup in 1994, realising the possibility of more tourists coming to South Africa, Gaffley’s decided to enter the tourism market. To start with, two luxury coaches were purchased and in 1995, Gaffley’s tourist division was launched. Since then the luxury fleet has grown and now consists of different capacity vehicles ranging from 15 to 65 seaters seaters. The Grabouw branch consists of different sizes ranging from 7 to 65 seaters.
From the beginning it has always been Gaffley’s motto to provide a dependable service at reasonable prices. This has always remained the same since 1954, through their service to the public. Over all these years they have built up an experience, which is of immeasurable value to their operation, and the benefits of which are passed on to their clients and passengers.
To enable their clients to experience the unique beauty of our country, Gaffley’s prefer to travel during daylight hours. However, should clients prefer to travel during nighttime, their wishes will be met. The necessary precautions will then be taken to ensure the safety of all passengers.
Gaffley’s is a member of SATSA, Cape Town Tourism, SABOA and WECBOF. Gaffley’s is at present being managed by Joseph’s daughter Glynis, and his son Noel. With Glynis – more than 25 years experience managing the Grabouw branch and Noel – more than 17 years experience running the Cape Town branch.
